If you are a moderate user of Vista my guess is that you hate the User Account Control — otherwise known as the annoying window that pops up and asks you if you truly want to do what it is you just requested the operating system do.

This guide will walk you through the disabling process. There are two different ways to disable UAC. One is through command prompt; the other, through MSCONFIG.

For use with msconfig, click on the start button, and type in 'msconfig' in the white bar that says “start search.”

A window will pop up with a series of options. This window is the “System Configuration Utility”, only disable what you know or what an admin or moderator on this forum instructs you to. 

Select the last tab, labeled, 'tools.'

Tool names will display, scroll to the bottom of the list and you will see two different options listed.

“Disable UAC” and “Enable UAC.”

Select “Disable UAC.”

This option will enter the command promt code for you and save you the trouble of typing it in yourself.

Select “apply.” and then “ok.”

You will be required to reboot so save all your work before entering this utility.

After the re-boot finishes, you will see that you have successfully disabled User Account Conrol. You will see this because a red balloon will show up in the bottom right hand corner informing you that your computer is not entirely protected because this feature has been disabled. This is normal. You may ignore the message and resume to your previous work.
